SUMMARY:

Various commissions and committee terms will expire on December 31, 2026. Each year, the Red Bluff City Council appoints commissioners and committee members during the first meeting in December. Staff requests authorization to begin soliciting commission applications and reappointment requests to present to the City Council at its December 1, 2026, City Council meeting for appointment by Council.

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:

Each year, as part of regular procedures, the City Council directs the Deputy City Clerk to advertise the various commission vacancies. The City Council selects and makes appointments at the first meeting in December.

DISCUSSION:

The City has three commissions and three committees; each commission has rotating expiration dates for its five members (3-year terms), and each committee seat has one member (1-year term).  These vacancies are as follows:

Audit Committee: 1 vacancy - Steve Piffero

Loan Committee: 1 vacancy - Mauricio Siguenza

Planning Commission: 2 vacancies - Tyler Miranda and Greg Latourell

Airport Commission: 2 vacancies - Pete Taylor and Robert Moore

Parks and Rec Commission: Jennifer Torres and Regan Olivarez (1-year term, student)

Note: Measure S Oversight Commission will seek appointments the following year.

Two seats on the Parks and Recreation Commission are currently vacant for commissioners representing the high school and elementary school districts. The City expects each board to recommend candidates to fill the seats soon.

CITY FISCAL IMPACT:

Except for the advertising costs, there is no fiscal impact on the City, as all commission and committee members are volunteers and receive no compensation from the City.
