SUMMARY:
The attached information is a summary of notable tasks that the Public Works Department has completed during the preceding month of June.

DISCUSSION:
In addition to normal daily operations, the below are specific notable items completed by each Division in Public Works Department. Staff also participated in monthly safety training and Traffic Flagging Safety training.
STREETS
• Trimmed 27 city blocks of trees
• Applied 15 tons of road patch in potholes and Graded 1 alley
• 8-man hours of street striping
• Placed 40 tons of hot-mix asphalt patches
• 70-man hours of Park Dept. assistance and Government Building maintenance
PARKS
• Edged 5 parks
• Painted 4 restrooms
• Replaced/repaired 2 irrigation mains, 19 sprinklers, and 2 toilets
• Trimmed and lifted 16 trees, removed 2 more
• Coordinated improvement projects with Sher Wintle Dog Park volunteers
ELECTRICAL
• Replaced/repaired 6 stop/streetlights/bulbs
• Reset traffic control lighting timing
• Repaired and replaced multiple bulbs and transformers
• Various service calls at sewer lift-stations including re-powering replacement pump
• Multiple service calls Park and pool facilities including ADA pool lifts
FLEET
• Performed 11 oil services on 7 vehicles and 4 pieces of equipment
• 19 repairs on 13 vehicles and 6 pieces of equipment
• Performed 3 90-day truck inspections and 1 truck tested for Clean Truck program
• Resolved and had issues repaired with skid steer being utilized for fire mitigation
• Continued coordination of items and contacts for surplus equipment auction including multiple equipment decommissioning
SEWER COLLECTIONS
• Rodded and flushed 3.9 miles of sewer mains
• Vacuumed and cleaned-out sewer lift stations preventative maintenance
• De-ragged Elks, Denney’s, and Motel 6 lift-station pumps
• Preventive inspections on 530 SSMH
• Assisted Parks staff vacuuming out kiddy pools and pot-holing for sprinkler repairs
• 87 USA markings requests and several contractor tie-in observations/inspections
WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
• Treated 27.7 million gallons of influent
• Discharged 23.3 million gallons of treated effluent
• Annual sludge released to drying beds
• Sodium Bisulfate Tank level indicated replaced and additional venting installed
• Two Aeration Blower and Digester Aerator motors have been removed for repairs
• Conducted preventative inspections and maintenance on,
o Primary Clarifier - cleaned and greased
o Grit Blower belt alignment inspected
o Raw Sludge Pumps de-ragged, greased, and inspected
o Secondary Clarifier - cleaned & inspected weirs, chlorine ring, and outfall
o Mechanical Bar Screen de-ragging, cleaned, and lubricated
o Applied Water Pumps’ HMI Panel inspected, cleaned, adjusted, tested fan
o CL2 Analyzers flushed and calibrated
o Tertiary filter cleaned and inspected, Traveling Bridge drive inspected
WATER
• Repaired 12 water main leaks
• Conducted 16 water quality samples
• Performed 4,972 water meter reads and 68 turn off/ons
• Responded to 71 utility locating requests
• Exercised 68 water main valves
• Flushed and/or conducted preventative maintenance on 41 fire hydrants
• Replaced 1 fire hydrant, 1 valve, and 25 Smart-meters
• Responded to 25 Work Orders
ENGINEERING
• Issued 17 Encroachment Permits and conducted 20 inspections
• Conducted 20 private development plan checks and 5 pre-con meetings
• Managed/coordinated 17 PW projects in the design/planning/construction phase
• Provided technical assistance/maintenance/installation on HVAC, IT, including new City Council A/V system
• Multiple inspections at Palms Villas and Rio Street Sewer construction projects
• Responded to public inquiries (phone, email, front counter), including 3 Public Record Requests and Issued 42 Work Orders
• Regulatory compliance updates for industrial and stormwater collection/discharge monitoring/reporting
• Coordinated Gov. Building maintenance/repairs at City Hall, Airport, River Park
• Ongoing response to an emergency blockage in sewer main behind Thai House
• Provided support and data in assistance with grant applications
CITY FISCAL IMPACT:
Impact varies depending on the Department’s Division funding. Generally, costs associated with the summary items are covered by budgeted operational funding or project specific budget accounts.
