SUMMARY:

The attached information is a summary of notable tasks that the Public Works Department has completed during the preceding month of August.

 

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:

None.

 

DISCUSSION:

In addition to normal daily operations, the following are specific notable items completed by each Division in the Public Works Department.  Staff also participated in monthly safety training.

 

STREETS

                     6 blocks of tree trimming

                     80-manhours of stump-grinding

                     Applied 6.5 tons of road patch in potholes

                     60-man hours of street striping and 16-man hours of flagging with TCPW on Baker Rd.

                     Replaced 4 Street Signs

                     256-man hours building maintenance/repairs and fire (vegetation) mitigation

PARKS

                     Trimmed 16 trees and 5 stumps were ground

                     Painted 4 restrooms, replaced 4 TP holders, repaired 1 drinking fountain

                     Replaced/repaired 7 sprinklers and 2 irrigation lines

                     1,240 feet of park gutters cleaned up and 1 sign repaired

ELECTRICAL

                     No update

FLEET

                     Performed 18 oil services on 16 vehicles and 2 pieces of equipment

                     26 repairs on 20 vehicles and 6 pieces of equipment

                     Performed 2 90-day truck inspections and 2 trucks tested for Clean Truck program

                     Coordinated State inspections of all City owned PERP registered portable equipment

                     Continued coordination of items and contacts for surplus equipment auction including staging of equipment

SEWER COLLECTIONS

                     Rodded and flushed 1.5 miles of sewer mains

                     Replaced pump at Orleans LS and fluid level sensor and pump at Motel 6 LS

                     De-ragged Riverside LS and emergency vacuuming of cooking oil dumping at Denny’s

                     Continued daily servicing of blocked sewer main behind Thai House

                     Assisted Parks staff with irrigation line locations

                     Conducted repairs on Vac-Truck and Rodder trailer

                     78 USA markings requests and several contractor tie-in observations/inspections

 

WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

                     Treated 27.0 million gallons of influent

                     Discharged 21.3 million gallons of treated effluent

                     Sludge drying beds; one has been mixed and turned over

                     Kickboard replaced around grit chamber and primary clarifier

                     Conducted preventative inspections and maintenance on,

o                     Primary Clarifier - new control box installed and drive cleaned, inspected, de-ragged, & lubricated

o                     Grit Chamber drained, inspected, residual grit measured, & blower aligned

o                     Secondary Clarifier - washed & inspected weirs, chlorine ring, and outfall

o                     Mechanical Bar Screen inspected, de-ragging, cleaned, and lubricated

o                     Aerobic Digester support cables de-ragged and damaged portions replaced

o                     CL2 Analyzers flushed and calibrated

o                     Tertiary filter cleaned and inspected, backwash pump & primary drive serviced

WATER

                     Repaired 6 water main leaks

                     Conducted 22 water quality samples

                     Performed 5,021 water meter reads and 22 notices delivered

                     Responded to 94 utility locating requests

                     Exercised 215 water main valves and replaced 1

                     Flushed and/or conducted preventative maintenance on 176 fire hydrants and painted 20 more

                     Replaced 169 Smart-meters

                     Responded to 20 Work Orders and 3 contractor meetings/inspections

ENGINEERING

                     Issued 16 Encroachment Permits

                     Conducted 21 private development plan checks

                     Managed/coordinated 12 PW projects in the design/planning/construction phase

                     Splash Park rebid and Trainor Park play structure coordination

                     Provided technical assistance/maintenance/installation on HVAC, IT, phones, & cameras

                     Multiple inspections at Palms Villas and Rio Street Sewer construction projects

                     Responded to public inquiries (phone, email, front counter), including Public Record Requests and issued 15 Work Orders

                     Regulatory compliance updates for industrial and stormwater collection/discharge monitoring/reporting

                     Coordinated Gov. Building maintenance/repairs at City Hall, Airport, River Park

                     Ongoing response to an emergency blockage in sewer main behind Thai House

                     Provided support and data in assistance with grant applications
